Event Medical Media Scan – February 2021 Edition

FOREWORDS:

As we enter into the 11th month of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is perhaps getting harder and harder to remember the times when thousands of people gathered together for music festivals, sport events or for civic events like fireworks and parades.   As vaccines roll out continue across Canada, one may start to think: Where will Canada start hosting mass gatherings again?

Could sniffer dogs (for COVID, not drugs!) be in the future? How about specially designed “bubbles” or pits for patrons? We look back at some of the articles that may give us some insight into the future.

Future of Mass Gatherings

While Australia, New Zealand and Taiwan have successfully hosted large music festivals in the past few months, the grim news of event cancellation continues to add up: Glastonbury music festival in the UK, Ultra Music Festival in Miami and Coachella in California are among some of the well-known casualties of the 2021 mass gathering calendar.

Could specially trained sniffer dogs be the future?  How about Adelaide music festival’s approach of stopping the live music when they detected patrons leaving their “bubble” on site?

COVID Impact

In the UK, the Supreme Court decided insurance companies cannot escape from claims and payouts due to COVID-19 losses. This is the first Commonwealth insurance case dealing with COVID-19 that ended up in the apex court. This could have a huge impact for similar lawsuits that are likely to pop up elsewhere.

As usual, we also picked an article looking at the film and TV industry for which we are now supporting from coast to coast to coast. Have you thought about what the actors/actresses thought about the COVID-19 protocols?
