People at Odyssey

How you can get involved…

Whether you are looking for casual shifts on core events, joining us for venue coverage, come coming out for the experiences at the bigger events (check out our Save the Dates page for current listings), your adventure, literally, begins here.

@TeamOdyssey

Team Odyssey is a community, a family and it’s fun! By volunteering with Odyssey, you are able to make a difference to the people around you. This helps to build an existing experience, gain new skills and build friendships. This is a great way to gain some hands on experience in a out of the hospital or first aid room setting. Some days we are setting up a field hospital in the in the middle of a field, and there are other times the team is driving UTV’s out in the middle of campsites at a music festival.

Each event is different, the team is diverse and always has something to teach to others. We hope that you want to get inspired, and join the fun!We are also ALWAYS ready to welcome great new clinicians, operators, field responders, unit clerks, general volunteers, communications experts, social media leads and much, much more.  The mix of people on the team and the huge diversity in skill-sets is what makes Odyssey’s team epic.

Odyssey Core Staff

We welcome everyone who wants to do what it takes to ensure the event attendees and participants experience their best events ever. We are looking to change the world, one event at a time.

The Major Planned Events rely on large, mixed multidisciplinary teams, but so many more events rely on smaller teams with more responsibility to take care of all of the guests. Our Core Event Staff are typically paid, casual positions, with opportunities at a wide range of events and venues across Canada.

Whether you have a healthcare background or bring other types of expertise to the team, we have roles you will enjoy. For example:

  • transport – we need “drivers” for everything from bikes and golf carts to motorcycles and big rigs
  • healthcare – we need physicians, nurses, paramedics, first aiders, specialty care providers
  • event support – we welcome unit clerks, scribes, organized people
  • crew support – grandmas, grandpas, moms, dads, teens, to help keep us going. Make sure we are fed and watered and taking breaks!
  • equipment curators – cool people who want to hang out, listen to music, and wash mud off of cots and restock equipment and supplies so we are “show ready” for the next event
  • Event Leaders
  • and so much more…

Leadership & Learning

Because everyone has a talent that they can share. Think about a vacation you took, remember telling everyone all about your adventures when you got back? Now let’s say, a friend of yours visited the same the place. I bet both of you were super excited to share your stories with each other and thought that your trip couldn’t have been any better BUT now your friend’s experience has got you thinking about what you are going to do the next time you go travel.

Shared experiences are richer experiences. That is why a lot of us get involved. We are people who are passionate about different kinds of special events and we ALWAYS have a unique story to share by the end of it. Many of us work hard at our ‘day jobs,’ but we are social and we want to go do fun stuff after with adventurous people! Many members of our team have made life long friends because they decided to get involved.

You have a lot of knowledge and expertise to share. Now replace story and insert ‘your talent.’ Did you know that everyone on the team has the ability to teach someone else something new? That feels great! It’s such a fun environment to learn in!

You will learn new skills. Maybe you have never driven an all-terrain vehicle before and you are a cardiac surgeon. Or, maybe you build rockets that will land on Mars and you want to come out and learn about what it takes to build a mini-emergency room in the field. Who knows?

Juniors Program

Are you currently enrolled in grades 10 – 12?

Are you interested in a healthcare career, social work, or other professions working & caring for people?   What about an interest in a real life look at the provision of patient care?

Do you have a valid first aid certification?

Are you able to get permission from your parents/guardians to join us at one of our many events?

If so, we welcome you to apply to become an Odyssey Junior member!

We offer volunteer experiences at events such as music festivals, extreme sports events, running and cycling races, marathons and others.

Our Odyssey Junior program welcomes high school students, with valid first aid certification, to join us at one of our many events throughout the year. At our Major Planned Events, you will see a fully functioning field hospital with healthcare professionals from various disciplines – this gives you an unmatched opportunity to see healthcare in real life. This is a serious commitment for us and for you – we endeavour to provide you with learning opportunities, while also ensuring you are appropriately supervised, insured, and cared for while you are with us on event.

Please note we carefully screen our Odyssey Junior applications – you will be contacted if you are accepted into our program.  As part of the medical team, we expect:

  • you to be self-assured (but also know when to ask others for help when you are in doubt)
  • mature and capable of carrying out first aid tasks independently (with support and supervision from adults).
  • Able and willing to make a serious commitment to your volunteering roles
  • punctuality and clear communication with the team
  • motivated to learn – ask questions, offer support, chat with team members when not taking care of patients
  • interested in chatting with patients who require medical assistance

We will be happy to provide letters of reference/volunteer hour sign-off for Odyssey Junior program volunteers.
