Dr. Janet McMordie

Sports & Family Physician, Associate Medical Director | ON

Janet is a Sport Medicine physician originally from North Vancouver, BC but now based out of Orillia, Ontario. She completed medical school, family medicine residency, and sport medicine fellowship at McMaster University.  She holds a diploma in Sports Medicine from the Canadian Academy of Sport and Exercise Medicine (CASEM).

She was bitten by the event medicine bug very early in medical school and has been involved with Odyssey ever since. She is a member-at-large on the Ontario Medical Association’s section of sport and exercise medicine and co-hosts a Sport Medicine podcast.  She is a member of the endurance medicine group, the women’s issue in sport medicine group, and continuing professional development group at CASEM.

Some career highlights include:

  • Team Physician – McMaster Women’s and Men’s rugby
  • Sport Physician with Team Canada at the World University Summer Games 2017 in Taiwan
  • Invictus Games in Toronto 2017 – cycling venue physician
  • Hardwood Hills ski and bike patrol

She feels like event medicine is the best ‘burn out preventer” and always feels recharged and re-energized after an event. The best part about event medicine is working with such a collaborative, intimidation-free, multi-disciplinary team. It is the perfect place to learn new skills and expand 
Outside of medicine, Janet is an avid kayaker, a cross-country ski enthusiast, a wanna-be cyclist, and a plodder (read: very slow runner).

She loves being outdoors up in her new home base aka “cottage country” and will happily chat about all things Harry Potter to anyone who will listen.
