Dr. Anthony Seto

Rural Emergency and Urgent Care Physician, Associate Medical Director, Med School Course Chair | AB

Event medicine parallels Anthony’s pursuit of energizing, spontaneous, and unique experiences. When not on a medical team for a mass gathering event, he practices as a rural emergency and urgent care physician, teaches for the medical school, runs a monthly simulation program for Internal Medicine clerkship students, facilitates life support courses (ACLS-EP/ACLS, PALS, BLS), trains lifeguards and aquatic instructors, makes movies, DJs, and designs escape games.

The development of his passion in event medicine stems from numerous youth-volunteering experiences in community events in both first aid and non-first aid capacities. He has finally found a home of other like-minded individuals at Odyssey, where people blend their love for events, medicine, and volunteerism.

In the world of mass gathering medicine, Anthony is particularly interested in topics surrounding team dynamics, conflict resolution, briefing, debriefing, volunteer engagement, and toxicology. He feels that there are similarities between the production and organization of festivals and the producing and organizing of a medical team—he likes to challenge the crew to think of ways to create positive, energizing, and immersive experiences for medical volunteers.

Event medicine combines Anthony’s interests in one go: love for events and fun experiences, academic interests in acute care, passion for medical education, and ability to practice and improve teamwork and communication skills with other mass gathering medicine enthusiasts.

Interesting fact: Anthony has an “Odyssey yellow” surfboard branded “ODYSEA”.
